Six Inch Skirt Pattern

Published by christinem at 6:00 am under sewing lessons Edit This

Why should the kids have all the fun?  Here, the pillowcase dress grows up.  And mom gets a skirt in a hurry.

Six Inch Skirt Pattern

How to make the Six Inch Skirt:

  1. Measure your hips.  Add six inches to that measure.
  2. Cut fabric width to your hip measure plus six inches.  Length can vary.  But don’t make it more than two inches past the knee or you’ll need a different pattern - with a slit. (For reference, I’m 5′4 and prefer a 21″ hem, which is just above the knee.)
  3. If you have a ready hem, such as this fluttery one from a vintage sheet, you can hem from the waist .  Skip to step #4.  Otherwise, just hem.
  4. Create a side seam.
  5. Make a casing and insert elastic.  Voila!  Six inch skirt.
