Labor Day Sale at Joanns - the Goods

Published by christinem at 11:30 am under sewing notions Edit This

I seem to have an endless supply of fabric, but not notions.  And every few months I try to buy patterns when they are on sale.  Here’s what I found on my most recent Joann’s excursion.

Labor Day Sales Joanns

The patterns are all McCall’s patterns.  For a preview of blogged things to come they are:

  •  McCall’s M4400, a bag pattern by Laura Ashley - one view has that kind of reinforced bottom that is often made with a remnant of leather or suede.
  • McCall’s M4531, also by Laura Ashley, that is several types of business bags.  I bought a zipper for that one.  So it may be sewn up soon.
  • McCall’s 4936 which has several basic handbag styles.  I’m going to keep it around for next time I feel like making a smaller bag.
  • McCall’s M5822, a tote by Kay Whitt Designs.  It looks perfect for using up the Michael Miller fabric remnants that I have laying around.
  • McCall’s M5824, laptop bag and laptop sleeve patterns.  This one requires a lot of notions:  three zippers, cord , and three D-rings.
  • McCall’s M5898, market totes and bottle carrier.  DH has been asking for different types of bags, since I made him the canvas bag .  This pattern can be sewn up with manly canvas.

The Sponge Bob and totes are for a little girls birthday project.  I think Sponge Bob is gross.  But that’s what she wants for her birthday.   More on that soon.

In the past I have done  a lot of sewing of garments that could be made in a weekend, and simple curtains.  Now that I sew more regularly, and really like to make handbags, I’m learning what to keep on hand.  Bags need notions.  I need to find one of those cool closures like old coin purses have.  And also an alligator closure.
